The rich touristic tradition of Herzegovina, especially of its capital city of Mostar, relies on abundance of its cultural and historical heritage dating from the Ottoman and Austro--Hungarian Empires and other historic periods that left their mark, as well as on its warm and welcoming people. |

MOSTAR - "the capital" of Herzegovina, is its administrative and cultural centre founded around the end of the 15th century, in the dawn of the Turkish rule. It's most famous for the Old City and Old Bridge, which in 2005 became a part of the Cultural Heritage of the UNESCOO. The city is characterized by the meeting and the coexistence of four major religions present in the area-Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Islamic and Jewish. Mostar is a unique city where historically and culturally the East and West have met, a feature that remains visible until today. Another prominent feature of the city is the beautiful blue-green Neretva river, which runs through the city center. It is unique for its visual attractiveness as well as for the richness and diversity of its ecosystems. One always leaves this city promising to return, charmed by its beauty, originality and complexity. |
